Looking back, we can say that, historically, the press cutting (clipping) service is divided into three basic periods. The glue and scissor period, in which the cuttings were cut off the newspapers and were presented to the customer as pieces of the newspapers with handwritten notes as to the date, the name of newspaper, etc… The Photocopy machine period, in which photocopiers the cuttings were presented to the customers as photocopies of the actual newspaper cuttings, and More recently the electronic period, through the use of computers and the Internet and through which cuttings are presented to the customer in an electronic form directly on his/her computer. At Blade we did not have any experience of first period. However, we did work under the second period and successfully positioned ourselves as market leaders in the Cyprus market. During these last 10 years we have had the opportunity to study and pinpoint the weaknesses of the photocopy system. More specifically we can say that the problems we had to face were the following: Low quality of photocopies. Difficulty in the presentation of large press cuttings. Late distribution and delivery. Time-consuming and expensive delivery for customers in other cities and countries. Errors in reading, coding, cutting, photocopying, classification, etc… Difficulty in archiving and access of old press cuttings. Difficulty in addressing and meeting the different needs and requirements of our customers. Having in mind the rapid technological developments, we tried to find solutions that would give answers to these problems. At the same time, however, we also examined the possibilities for new products and services that could be useful to our existing customers.
